A Very 70’s Themed Party

You’d better not kill the groove and how could you with these ultimate tips and tricks for hosting a 70’s theme soiree? This 70’s party can be celebrated literally any time during the year, whether it be for a birthday, Halloween, new years eve, or just a monthly friends gathering. I can guarantee your guests will have a great time putting together a fun outfit or silly recipe. Tuna casserole, anyone?

DECOR

Obviously, disco balls. Bonus points if it lights up. *tip if you have dogs- maybe don’t. mine still have not recovered.

A fck ton of tassels. I made this epic silver fringe chandelier for under $5 with supplies from the $ store.

An epic photowall made from a fringe backdrop and some daisy balloons from amazon.

Raid your grandmothers/parents basement OR the goodwill store. I found a bunch of fun pieces that were giving 70’s vibes for serving dishes and glassware. Now they will remain in my own basement until I host another 70’s party.

Glitterize + tie dye anything and everything.

Lava lamps, duh.

FOOD + DRINK

I googled “70’s casseroles” and the results did and didn’t disappoint. Mainly because I hate olives in jello and tuna.

If you’re brave, and your friends aren’t expecting to come hungry, have some fun with this but also have your pizza joint on speed dial.

We had a heck of a lot of champagne, because naturally, it was NYE. I decorated this massive veuve cliquot bottle to pop at midnight and she was giving main character energy.

GAMES + PARTY BANTER

Tonight was a night of dancing under the disco ball (and not knowing what to do with our arms), taking glamour shots in front of our groovy photowall, and playing the 70’s themed game called uniquely enough “oranges”. It’s where you create two lines of people, and they pass an orange from under their chin, to the person behind them. The first team to get their orange to the end of the line WINS! This was hysterical and dare I say, bonding within our group?

In addition, I am the queen of the “saran wrap game” where you wrap a million little things in an annoyingly intricate ball of saran wrap and your friends have to try and unwrap it with oven mitts on while the person next to you feverishly rolls dice to make doubles and earn a turn. Is it a waste of plastic and bad for the environment? Yes. But was it hysterical to see our friends open the silly little 70’s themed prizes within the saran ball? Even more yes.

We had a costume contest as well! Our friends voted throughout the night for best dressed and winner got a prize. Of course it was the classic 70’s toy - pet rock.

You could also definitely purchase 70’s trivia on amazon or even a murder mystery 70’s theme game to add to the fun!

It’s always fun to host a themed party and you’re giving your friends a reason to get into something they otherwise wouldn’t. When is the next time you may have the opportunity to get down under a disco ball in 7 inch platform heels?
