So typically, Bob and I like to explore and plan activities when we travel. However, this particular trip to Playa del Carmen, we didn’t have a hell of a lot we wanted to do besides park our ass on the sand and drink our body weight in margaritas. Most importantly, I had a lot of Colleen Hoover that I had to catch up on. I will share what we did, even if we only left the resort for 8 hours for a Cancun excursion, in case you also want to be lazy tourists and not take in the culture and sights of beautiful Playa del Carmen.

The hotel was simply gorgeous and had more pools on site than we knew what to do with. I’m not kidding- this place had at least 9 pools. It had nightlife + the kindest, most engaging staff. An unlimited amount of options for all inclusive dining and drinking. So really, there was no real reason to leave the resort. We were happy as clams with our spf +80 and tableside chips/guac.

On Day 3, we took a group excursion into Cancun for the Tulum + Cenote Tour. The way I thought my life was over when driving on that main highway though….My apple watch asked me if I was working out, that’s how elevated my heart rate was out of sheer terror. I witnessed another person on the tour look at his wife and say “well, we had fun while it lasted.”

Tulum was neat to see, though I can’t say I remember anything that our tour guide said. I wasn’t functioning well in the heat, and I shouldn’t be held accountable for the information given under those circumstances. The views overlooking the ocean were gorgeous, obviously. We tried taking some subpar pics on the good ‘ol iphone but it didn’t do it justice. The wind was winding this day and my hair just was not cooperating.

The cenote excursion was interesting. We first started inside this massive cenote where we had to climb down a wet, slippery ladder the width of dental floss. They immediately snapped pictures that lit up the whole cave and I’m sure you can imagine, captured everybody at their best. Cold, wet, semi-blinded and with an oversized life preserver cutting into our jaws.

They also took us to an open natural pool to snorkel and swim with the fish. Our guide held up a laminated poster of all the fish we may encounter on this adventure- including a barracuda. Yes, the ones that will kill you. She didn’t seem to worry but I of course was on high alert because I am an anxious queen. We didn’t see any barracuda’s thank god, but we did see a hell of a lot of seaweed. For some reason, this time of year, the seaweed was ABUNDANT in the water so it made things pretty itchy and slimy to swim through. I was more than ready to go back to my safe space at the hotel pool. First world probz.

On Day 4, Bob and I rented bikes from the hotel and took a joy ride towards the public beach. Again, covered in seaweed and not one person was in the water. They had John Deere’s all over the sand scooping up heaps of the devil’s lettuce. It was a no from me dawg. I think the best thing to come from this little excursion was coming into contact with this tiny fuzzy creature that I can only describe as part raccoon, part Archie (my dog). They are called coati’s. It was so cute and he ate trash.
